Wedding Photography Technology

Wedding photography is a very specialized field – something that not everyone is cut out for. And while most people with a digital SLR think they’re photographers, there is a very high level of technical and artistic knowledge necessary to really document what happens in a fast-paced environment like a wedding day. As a matter of fact, recently, there have been several very publicized lawsuits against photographers who claimed to have a level of skill and knowledge that they did not and ruined someone’s wedding day. This goes for both still and video.

When you decide to look for a photographer to capture your special day, start with a google search of your area, like Grand Rapids Wedding Photography, or Grand Rapids Wedding Photographers to see who and what type of photographers are in your area. Start looking through websites, evaluating the first impression that you get from both the website design AND the pictures. The design and organization of a photographers’ website is very closely coupled to who they are as a professional. A tacky, sloppy website usually equals a sloppy photographer, and a sloppy photographer is not somebody you want recording the most important day of your life. Also evaluate their photography style. Do the pictures speak to you? Do they tell a story or invoke a emotional reaction? All these are important considerations.

The final thing you need to do when evaluating photographers is meet with them in person. You need to have a certain chemistry with your wedding photographer or you won’t be comfortable working with them. If you’re not comfortable, if you don’t trust them, if you don’t like them, it will show in the pictures. Pictures don’t lie – and even the best photographer in the world can’t hide what’s on your face. So make sure you meet with them, in person, and take some time to have a cup of coffee and see if they’re a fit or not.
