Always Read the Combi Boiler´s Instruction Manual

Always Read the Manufacturer´s Instruction Manual

Combi Boilers are the best choice when you are faced with the need of heating your home and having instant hot water for showers and baths. They are more popular everyday and many countries around the world have a high percentage of homes with Combination Boilers installed.

Governments issue regulations on the installations requirements, safety rules, and energy saving guidelines. It is good to be aware of all that, although you usually rely on the professionalism of the plumber or the technician that the shop where you bought your appliance sent to install it for you, it is better to be well informed.

This is the best choice, to ask the Brand Company to send a technician and have him install it in the best place in your house according to his professional judgement.  Technicians are trained and know just how to do it well, fast and safely. They also have access to all the spare parts should something not work, and they can follow up on your particular unit thru the years.  Some Brands only offer warranty if they are the ones doing the installation.

When you buy a new Combination Boiler, or combi boiler, with the intention of installing it yourself, make sure to read the entire Manufacturer’s Instructions Manual before attempting to do so.  If the text is in another language in which you are not fluent, be humble enough to ask someone else to translate it for you. Reading those instructions is essential.  Be sure to know if you will be covered by the warranty should something go wrong when attempting to install it yourself.

Installing isn’t difficult at all, just needs some drilling, some screws and some connecting pipes to the hot and cold water faucets and the proper gas bottle. You just need to know what you are doing.  The Manual will suggest the best locations in the house to set it up, usually indoors or under a protective roof if outdoors.  It will tell you the safety dimensions around the unit to ensure good ventilation.  Follow the instructions on how to connect the exhaust pipe to the unit and that it goes out the proper way.

If the installation is defective, chances are your unit won’t last long, may explode, burn out, or just break down when you most need it.  If the boiler is installed outdoors and not well protected from the bad weather, it will get rusty. The battery powered ignition cables may short circuit with the water and burn the safety valve down. In this case the burner won’t work anymore and you won’t have hot water.  You will be forced to seek the assistance of a technicians and spend some extra money fixing it.

From my own personal experience, it is best to read the manual regardless of who installs your boiler. Knowledge takes no extra space in your brain, or so my grandma used to say.
